so much to do!

So many things that need doing, and I need to get some more self portraits done for my watercolor final project. We have to do a series of 3, of any subject we choose. At first I was going to paint flower pots, but came to my senses (luckily) and decided that self portraits would be SO much cooler. I'll post those when I get them done. The one piece I have here (not my to-do list) is part of my CFC final project, which is mapping a place. The place I decided to map is my parent's car, with us kids in the back being crazy. This is the crazy part, which is going to be put behind the shape of a car, so you can only see it through the windows...yeah, hopefully it'll come out ok. peace.

Blog lameness & watercolor journaling

I just realized that my cousin Amy posted a link from her blog to mine (thanks Amy, you're awesome!), which is abfab, but---ahhhhh! Now that means I have to rid my blog of its lameness. Sigh. I am so NOT good at posting things. Whatever.
I took this watercolor journaling class down at the Union last Tuesday, and it was so cool, because I wasn't all freaking out about making awesome artwork like I am in watercolor class, and I just sort of.....painted. Plus they gave a bunch of great art supplies for only $7. The class could've been totally lame, and I would've come just for the supplies. But it was cool, so. Yes. Awesome.

Music poster

Wow, the crit for this in TMP went SO well!! I don't think anyone had anything bad to say about it. Which is a first. How nice. I'm so pleased with how it turned out, which is a good thing, considering how it took me FOREVER! I think I'm getting carpal tunnel, I worked so long with my mouse touchpad.
So, process: I took pictures of friends playing various instruments, plus found some pictures online, which I printed out, and then drew blind contours of. (Kind of like etch-a-sketch in Cranium...haha, I love that game). I watercolored the instruments, and inked some outlines around them. I scanned them in, and took a long time deciding on the arrangement. The background color took me a long time to decide too. I had a lavender for the longest time until I decided on maroon at the last minute before printing.
The music notes going around are the violin part from the song 'Death Valley Queen' by Flogging Molly. I'm not sure if I drew the counting right...dotted quarter note? Whatever. Its a pretty song.

Jazz Jam

I love going to Jazz Jam @ Leo's, down in Pierpont, on Thursday nights. They have free coffee (which is AWESOME), plus totally sweet crazy music. Tonight I brought my sketchbook down there and made some quick sketches of the guys and girl improving.
