I made some much-needed updates to my portfolio website! There is now a lot more of my recent work up under 'paintings', I merged the music and theatre sections, and completely deleted all the work I did for the Michigan Daily newspaper--not really relevant to what I'm doing currently.

Oh poo, last week I was doing so good at posting almost every day... It's so silly, I think I'm not busy, but often lots of my day is taken up by little things that I didn't think would actually take up as many hours as they do. And then I'm not in my studio as much as I should be----I think I feel a New Years Resolution coming into focus.
Newest thing I have done is O is for Ostrich! A commission for a baby named Oliver, who I'm pretty sure, without having met him, is the most adorable baby in the world. Also I've been listening to lots of Anna Ash and the Family Tree, my favorite band in the world (besides Simon and G-funk). Her newest song, Honesty, is so so happy.

My friend Lucy and I are collaborating on some Christmas cards! Unfortunately we didn't decide to do this sooner, as everyone already has their cards sent out for this year, but I'm thinking they could be for next year. We're each designing 4, and then putting them altogether in a set of 8 to sell on Etsy. Here are the first two I've come up with!

I've been a fan of Lauren Simkin Berke for a long time (and by a long time I mean like 3 years, so...I guess out of my 22 years that's a decent amount of time.). She's an illustrator based in Brooklyn, and she's published all over the place-- New York Times, L.A. Times, the Boston Globe--you get it, she's famous and awesome. She has a ton of amazing work, so obviously everyone must go see it! Her line portraits are just so cool, I can't get over them. AND on her etsy page she sells light switch covers. Shut the front door I love it.

Here are a couple paintings from my sketchbook that I'm going to frame. I really love how the paint looks on non-watercolor paper... It pools and drips and dries differently, since the paper can't absorb nearly as much.

I've just discovered (yesterday) the work of Ashley Percival, this amazingly talented guy living over in the UK! His animals have so much character, I feel like they're about to just start chatting with me about tea time or wellies or what awful bloody weather they're having. And the owl with the glasses literally cracks me up. He's got an etsy page (Ashley, not the owl), The Cool Wall, which has exactly 89 gorgeous works of art. Some day maybe he will do an art trade-zies with me. That would be the best ever.

My newest post for the pen pals! The theme was 'idioms', and I chose to illustrate mumbo jumbo. And then the girl down below is for the next pen pals theme, 'Reflections'. I haven't posted her yet, but I probably will sometime later this week!
Happy Monday everyone!
